Members of the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) and journalists from the international visited Sapulut on 22nd – 23rd November 2019. The international journalists come from the UK, China, South Africa, South Korea, Australia, India, and the Netherlands. The purpose of the visit is to experience sustainable forestry management and observe its implementation in Sabah. Also joining them were officers from Malaysia Timber Certification Council (MTCC) and Mr David Thien from the local paper “Daily Express.”
During the visitors’ briefing, DFO Robert Mijol spoke on “Conservation Effort in Sabah and Forest Rehabilitation at Bukit Piton Forest Reserve.” Then, our FMU Manager, Teddy Sius @ Lawrencius, briefed on the FMU Concept and practices on the ground. Next, we visited reduced impact harvesting sites and strip-line planting areas. The program ended with a visit to Kampong Tataluan, exposing our visitors’ to the local culture and cuisine.
