Forest Fire Prevention and Control Training was held on 3rd – 5th August 2022 at Sapulut Forestry Complex. This training was conducted by 11 representatives of the Forest Fire Team crew from all over Sabah and was joined by 39 participants from the SFDSB. The purpose of this training is to train and, at the same time, appoint the SFDSB forest fire crew.

On the first day, the training class was only held at the Sapulut Forestry Complex, filled with lecture slots and classes from the trainees. A photo session with the trainees was done in the middle of the talk session, with the participants wearing the shirts given during registration. The actual practical training was done on the second day near Sapulut lake. Participants were first introduced to fire extinguishing tools and the talk delivered by Tuan Jinik.

Tuan Jinik also introduced 4 water delivery techniques and ways to control fires that occur in the forest. After giving a talk, participants were asked to make a fire break, which is one way to prevent fires from spreading. Then, the participants were divided into 4 groups to represent each water delivery technique before being instructed to perform the delivery technique that had been given.

At the end of the practical, the participants returned to the Sapulut Forestry Complex to continue the last talk by Tuan and the participants’ presentation session. Again, participants are given a fire situation and are asked to present ways to control the fire in groups. As a result, all the participants who presented were certified to have understood the concept and how to prevent and control fires in the forest.

Therefore, Tuan Daim Balingi officially and successfully closed the Forest Fire Prevention and Control Training by planting 25 fruit trees around the Sapulut Forestry Complex. These activities involve trainees, the Executive Manager, Tuan Teddy Sius, SFDSB staff, and participants.

On the last day, participants were given a brief briefing by Mr. Julius (FPD) and Mr. Johnson (OSH) about the purpose of this Forest Fire Prevention and Control Training and the next planning. Participants are divided into several fixed groups to facilitate the dispatch of teams when there is a fire in the FMU14 area. With this, the end of the training was attended by 39 staff members represented by each division in SFDSB.
